the innocent occupy the prison
the world adores the free man
and manufactures his wax
to produce a tepid candle
full of fire, full of flame
with no backbone, no wick
and ultimately, no purpose.
visitation resembles a slap in the face
separation thinly veiled by conjugation
the jailbird accepts its cage
the madman wardens his rage-
before long He will come to break
the blink of an eye reduces the bleak
and the Hand of Judgment
will sweep up the guilty and weak.
